GetShotByElla.com shares a river view by fine artist Ivo David

Riverside Cafe-Glittering at Noon (24″ x 30” oil on canvas), by Ivo David

You can take the artist out of his native Italy, but an ineffable, singularly Italian flair abides on his canvases. In his work Riverside Cafe-Glittering at Noon (24″ x 30” oil on canvas), Italian American artist Ivo David illustrates the iconic Riverside Cafe restaurant on the Indian River in Vero Beach, Florida. The destination is popular with residents and tourists, coming by both land and boat. The boats arriving at the Florida landmark in David’s painting bring to mind Venetian gondolas and fine crafted, classic wooden boats traveling along the Amalfi Coast. David’s Riverside Cafe restaurant is a realistic rendering, recognizable to any local resident of the area, but his water and sky are portrayed with the artist’s hallmark version of impressionism. Though the river casts a mirror image reflection of the land, it is a playful, mystical waterway, formed with imaginative swirls that evoke snakes, “S’s”, and the French curved shape of the bow of an ancient Viking ship. David’s fluffy, blue, cream, and cotton candy peach colored sky hints at hidden, heavenly forms: angels, musical instruments, flying dragons and spinning spheres. On a sail boat heading toward the restaurant in David’s painting, the viewer can almost see the wind ruffling and puffing the sail, and a movie of ever changing ethereal images seems to be playing out on the sail with each gust.

Discovering “Different” a novel By Datta Groover

As a compulsive planner, I have discovered that my plans rarely work out as anticipated, and the unexpected, serendipitous things that burst on the scene can create the most meaningful experiences. This is what happened when at the last minute I decided to attend a Zoom meeting that I was at first adamant about skipping, in capitulation to the “arm twisting” of a lifelong best friend.  During the meet, I chanced to have a brief discussion with contemporary writer Datta Groover, author of the novel “Different.” Intrigued, I soon found myself on a reader’s journey with his book. I literally could not put it down! This is no slow start read; the first sentence drew me into the character’s nightmare. I was hooked, traveling with character Frank MacBride and his family until the last line of type. “Different” combines diverse elements, making it difficult to lump into any one book category; it is spiritual, mysterious, transformative, a love story, a marital odyssey, a healing quest, crime fiction, and fantastic, all intertwined. Finishing the story and closing the book cover, my first thought was curiosity about the future of the characters in “Different” who became more alive with each page and were now like dear friends I didn’t want to say good bye to. I look forward to reading Groover’s future books!

GetShotByElla.com @ Art Anonymous Exhibit

The artworks of twenty-five anonymous artists were selected by a panel of judges for the group exhibition Art Anonymous, hosted by Off Island Studio in collaboration with Project Space 1785. The exhibit displayed at Project Space 1785, 1795 Old Dixie Hwy, Vero Beach, FL, in March 2020. Viewing was during gallery hours:  Wednesday through Friday, 3 pm to 6 pm, and Saturday 11 am to 2 pm. The Opening Night Reception was held Friday, March 6, 2020, 5 pm to 9 pm, at Project Space 1785

“The objective of this collaboration is to invite regional, national and international artists to explore art beyond their usual style and subject matter, to challenge themselves and the audience with expressions of personal discovery and comment,” according to Off Island Studio posts. Although pseudonyms and aliases could be used by the exhibiting artists, all art on display remained anonymous to gallery visitors to encourage the artists to venture openly into untried and possibly uncomfortable subject matter, challenging their usual body of work and focusing heavily on content and concept. Upon sales, artists had the opportunity to decide, if they wanted to reveal themselves exclusively to  buyers.
